Rocking, Rolling and Balance
A one-week workshop with time for a holiday
Spring 2012
5 hours of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement classes most days, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the surrounding countryside.
"Health is measured not by the capacity to stay standing, but by the ability to be knocked down and then return to standing"
Moshe Feldenkrais
This is the fundamental thinking behind this one-week course.
Real "core stability" comes not from strength and holding tight, but from flexibility and responsiveness. Looking for increasing strength as we get older is a losing battle, but flexibility can always be learned! Then we are able to respond, re-organise and move on in the face of the constant challenges which, big or small, can knock us off course.Even standing still there is movement - losing balance and finding it again. The more elegantly we can do this, the more flexible and stable we are. In larger movements - the rocking and rolling we'll be working with at Kendal - the challenge to maintain balance is bigger and clearer.
As children we fall easily, and recover quickly. With age, falling feels more threatening, and the effort of trying not to fall can make us more vulnerable. This course is a step towards recovering that childlike resilience and confidence.
Here's a nice fun bit of rolling Feldenkrais!
