WALKING ON AIR

effortless everyday movement

walking on dartmoor - gate and hills

Scoriton, Dartmoor, Devon
25 August – 1 September

A one-week workshop with time for a holiday

Walking is so much easier when you know how!

The focus of this week is on walking. With awareness of how your skeleton works, one part with the others, you generate the ability to respond efficiently to the many stimuli and responses of walking. And walking gets easier and lighter.

We work indoors. Doing a lot of movement lying on the floor takes us out of the usual gravitational pull. The development of awareness generates a resource which continues to be actively available to continue change after the course.

The location is beautiful, and there is plenty of opportunity to explore the changes you have made. There are lovely walks straight out of the village.

The hall is wheelchair accessible, with easy parking.

Five hours of Awareness through Movement class time on four days and 2 -3 hours on the other four.

So, quite intensive! But the environment is very supportive if you don’t give yourself too much to do.

Cost: £360

Booking and Payment
£50 deposit secures your place. Balance payable one month before the course starts.

Please read these notes on how to pay.

Before you book, please send me an email to check there is still a place, and, if you have not worked with me before, what (if any) experience you have with Feldenkrais

A few individual Functional Integration sessions are available through the week at extra cost. Book early if you’d like one.

Accommodation

There are B&Bs, self-catering, and a campsite nearby. If you book early, you’re more likely to get a B&B within walking distance of the hall.

Some B&Bs will collect people from the station at Totnes (usually for a charge) – it’s worth asking.

Ashburton.org has a good list of local hotels and B&Bs.

B&Bs
The Church House Inn in Holne used to be a staple, but is sadly now closed, it seems permanently.
The Tradesman’s Arms in Scoriton, right next door to the venue, is an excellent thriving pub though, with food and accommodation.

Agaric
If you want your accommodation to be a real treat, Agaric (in Ashburton) comes very highly recommended. Note that you’ll need a car if you’re staying in Ashburton, which is about 3 miles from Holne.

Gage’s Mill
If you’re looking for a single room in a B&B, this often has its single room free in August. It’s a short car ride away. I remember good breakfasts!

Other local B&Bs – people have stayed happily in these before (though sometimes ownership changes):

Hunter’s Reach

Scorriton Down Farm also does B&B.

Bed and Breakfast Direct may be a useful site – look at pages for Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Two Bridges etc.

Selfcatering
Newcott Farm Cottages are about 5 miles from Scoriton, near Widecombe. Very much on the Moor – so you would need a car.
Check out Ashburton.org for other self-catering options. You may be lucky, even if it’s late!

Camping
Dartmoor Shepherds Huts is a campsite at Mitchelcombe, about 15 minutes walk from Scoriton, offering shepherds huts and bell tents, as well as standard pitches for tents.
