Rolling for Your Back

Rolling for Your Back

6 and 7 April

In remembering how to roll around, we revisit the joy of moving, and the skill of organising the back to respond to the floor.

Rolling leads to reorientation in the room. It can surprisingly lead to sitting or kneeling, and we get great feedback from the unyielding floor.

As ever, the workshop invites you to find out how you do what you do.

As we relearn to roll, we get to understand functional choices better, and organise ourselves better according to what we’re doing.

Booking and Payment

Before you book, please send me an email to check there is still a place, and to let me know, if you have not worked with me before, what (if any) experience you have with Feldenkrais.

Please also read these notes on how to pay.

Getting there

The workshop will be in the Dojo, at:
Stillpoint, The Stoneyard, Old Orchard, Bath BA1 5AX

It’s not an obvious address – one year a few people got lost – so there’s a map and some notes below.

There is no parking at the Dojo (although you can drop people and kit off there).

I recommend using Park and Ride.

Another option is to park in St Saviours Road, Larkhall BA1 6RT (no restrictions) on the Eastern edge of Bath. Walk along the A4 London Road (20 mins) or if you have time, along the canal (adds about 10 mins – come off the path at Sydney Gardens)  to Walcot Street.

Sometimes the gates at the bottom of Old Orchard are shut on Sundays. If so, walk back up Old Orchard, turn left and then left again into Beehive Yard. There is a pedestrian gate, with a keypad lock (ask me for the code on Saturday). Go through the gate and continue on down to the Dojo.

Walking to Stillpoint

Stillpoint is about 10 minute’s walk from Bath Abbey in the centre of the city.

Walk up Walcot Street (past Waitrose), and Old Orchard is a small lane down to the right.

At the bottom, turn left, following the sign to the Dojo, which is up the steps.

Add another 10 minutes if you’re coming from the train station or the bus station.

The Art of Being in Motion

A collaborative weekend workshop with Helen Poynor & Shelagh O’Neill

Branscombe - two miles from Beer, East Devon

November 15 – 17 2024

Friday 2.30 pm to Sunday 5.15 pm

£155 (£130 concession)

The dynamic collaboration between Helen and Shelagh resumes, interweaving Feldenkrais Awareness through Movement lessons with non-stylised movement explorations. A chance to delve deeper and expand the horizons of your movement practice.

The subtle kinaesthetic investigations of the Feldenkrais Method enrich creative expression, revealing new possibilities for an embodied encounter with the natural world.

The Feldenkrais Method generates flexibility of body and mind, in a focused, relaxed and often surprising way. The sequences of movements work like a physical riddle – as each new movement is repeated and explored, new clarity is found and unaccustomed movement relationships emerge.

Your habits and assumptions are challenged and you find new solutions. Attention, curiosity and awareness combine to engage your capacity for on-going change.

Coming home to yourself as autumn turns to winter, following the changing rhythms of the seasons and of our lives. Lulled and energised by the songs of the sea, held by ancient rocks and trees, blessed by the changing light and skies.

Embracing your weather – breathing out.

The workshop will combine studio practice and moving under the cliffs at Beer Head and in the woods nearby.

Price: £155 (£130 concession)
Deposit £40

Location: Branscombe, 2 miles from Beer.
